Purchasing the Academy is 100% worth it, crafting your own runestones is huge, especially when trying to craft enchantments for your high tier items. If you have royal merchant, the laboratory isn't worth much other than blueprints to craft, but if you want to make your heros great you'd just buy the items from market instead of crafting anyways. .
